A couple have bought a new home at a David Wilson Homes’ development in Whiteley to give their family the extra space they need as well as to save them money.
Jenny (42) and Stephen (39) Mains moved to the leading housebuilder’s Forest Walk development at the end of March with daughter, Ayla (3), and while Jenny was expecting son Ewan, who was born in June.
Four months on, the couple are reaping the benefits of buying a new home in a location ideal for raising their family.
Jenny, who’s currently on maternity leave, said: “Our last home was a townhouse in Eastleigh. We were in desperate need of some more downstairs space and wanted to move to an area where we’d be happy raising our two kids.
“We started looking at second-hand properties, but not only were they coming in at the top of our budget, but they also needed extra money and time spent on them. We looked at the properties available at Forest Walk and realised that buying new was the best option. We could move straight into a spacious new home and there wouldn’t be any hidden costs.”
Jenny added: “We also know that new builds are more energy efficient than second-hand properties, which means we’ll also be saving money in the long-term.”
It was David Wilson’s four-bedroom Shenton home that won Jenny and Stephen over, along with Forest Walk’s countryside surroundings and easy access to amenities.
Stephen, who works in Whiteley, said: “The Shenton property ticked all the boxes for us. It has heaps of downstairs space for us to spend time in as a family, a large garden, and good-sized bedrooms for visiting guests. It’s just what we needed.
“Forest Walk is also close to lots of walks and green space, where the kids can run around, and has an excellent choice of shops and restaurants on the doorstep. It is also close to Botley, where Ayla will be starting pre-school in September, which is a real bonus.”
Jenny added: “We love our new home and are happy that we are living in a location which is ideal for us as a family.”
The family are now happily settled into their David Wilson Homes’ Shenton property. This four-bedroom detached home has a large open plan kitchen with dining area and French doors to the garden. The separate utility adds practicality, and the bay fronted lounge provides a perfect place to relax. Upstairs there's an en suite main bedroom and two further doubles, along with a single bedroom, the family bathroom, and some handy storage space. The home also comes with a garage and two parking spaces.
When it comes to energy-efficiency, a brand-new David Wilson Homes property could be up to 64% cheaper to run, meaning the Mains family could save up to £2,200 per year on their energy bills*. This is down to the use of highly thermally efficient insulation and argon-filled double-glazing, which allows the heat from the sun in whilst minimising heat loss. The homes also use the latest water and energy saving technologies, which means their water efficient kitchen and bathroom fittings could reduce consumption by up to 26% per day per person compared to the national average**.
Tammy Bishop, David Wilson Homes Sales Director, Southampton Division, is thrilled to hear that the family of four have chosen a home at Forest Walk.
She said: “Forest Walk is ideally situated close to Botley Wood and with easy access to amenities. And with Fareham and the village of Botley within easy reach, as well as Southampton and Portsmouth via the M27, it’s an ideal place to call home.
“Our selection of properties here are all designed to give homeowners more open space, more natural light and an energy-efficient environment to make their own. I wish Jenny, Stephen, Ayla and Ewan all the best for the future.”
